What are PG and VG?

PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin) are two primary base liquids used in e-liquids or vape juices. They serve as carriers for nicotine and flavorings and are responsible for creating vapor when heated in an e-cigarette or vape device. Here's a breakdown of PG and VG:

PG (Propylene Glycol):

  • Viscosity: PG is thinner and less viscous than VG. This means it's easier for the liquid to be absorbed by the wick and atomizer in your vape device.
  • Throat Hit: PG tends to provide a stronger throat hit, mimicking the sensation of smoking. This is why e-liquids with higher PG content are often preferred by ex-smokers.
  • Flavor: PG is an excellent flavor carrier and delivers flavors more accurately. It's known for providing a clean and clear taste of the e-liquid's flavor profile.
  • Vapor Production: PG produces less vapor compared to VG. If you prefer discrete vaping or a cigarette-like experience, PG-dominant e-liquids might be your choice.
  • Allergies: Some individuals may be sensitive or allergic to PG, experiencing symptoms like throat irritation. In such cases, high VG e-liquids are recommended.

VG (Vegetable Glycerin):

  • Viscosity: VG is thicker and more viscous than PG. It takes longer to be absorbed by the wick, which can result in fewer dry hits.
  • Throat Hit: VG provides a smoother, milder throat hit. It's less harsh on the throat, making it preferable for those who find PG too harsh.
  • Flavor: VG is less effective in carrying flavors compared to PG. However, it produces thicker and denser vapor clouds, enhancing the overall sensory experience.
  • Vapor Production: VG excels in vapor production. It's the preferred choice for cloud chasers who enjoy large plumes of vapor.
  • Allergies: VG is generally considered safe and well-tolerated by most people. It's often used in food and cosmetic products. It's a good alternative for individuals with PG allergies.

E-Liquid Ratios:

E-liquids are typically a blend of PG and VG in varying ratios. Common ratios include:

  • 50/50: An equal mix of PG and VG provides a balanced experience with moderate vapor production and throat hit.
  • 70/30: This ratio, with 70% PG, is preferred by many vapers, offering a strong throat hit with good flavor and vapor production.
  • Max VG: E-liquids with very high VG content (usually 80% VG or more) are favored by cloud chasers for maximum vapor production and smoother hits.

Your choice between PG and VG, or the ratio you prefer, depends on your personal preferences and what kind of vaping experience you're looking for. Some vapers enjoy experimenting with different ratios to find the perfect balance for their taste and device.
