Understanding Vaper’s Tongue and E-Liquid Flavor Loss.

November 27, 2019

One of the reasons that lead many smokers to switch to vaping is related to the taste. The truth is that electronic cigarettes tend to taste a lot better. Besides, you get to choose from a wide range of menthol, dessert, and fruit juices.

In case you have been vaping for some time, you probably already noticed that the vape juice flavors may start losing its potency. Before you think this is a problem, the reality is that this is just the way it works. You just need to keep in mind that you have vaper's tongue.

What Is Vaper's Tongue?

Simply put, vaper's tongue is something that most vapers experience and there are many different reasons that may lead you to experience it.

One of the things that you need to know is that the taste of the juice isn't just what you put in your mouth. The truth is that there are more senses involved. The smell, for example, is one of them. It is just like going to a restaurant. You order your meal and you enjoy a nice steak. However, the steak doesn't only feel good because it is well-cooked. It smells well and it was served in a beautifully decorated dish.

Most people are ok with making the difference between very sweet and very salty foods. However, most of us aren't quite ready to pick up some complex flavors that can be found on e-liquids. Besides, when you subject your olfactory system to the same smell over and over again, you may start developing odor or olfactory fatigue. This means that you simply don't have the ability to distinguish a particular smell when you have been exposed to it for quite some time.

If you were a smoker and you usually smoked around your home, you probably didn't even notice the smell. However, every time you had visits, you probably had some guests complaining about how smoky your home was. This is what occurs with e-liquid as well. When you have been using it for quite some time, both your brain and nose already got used to it and the flavor seems to have faded away.

Besides vaper's tongue, you may also stop noticing the taste of the e-liquid when you have damaged smell receptors, an illness or even if you have a blocked up nose.

How To Stop Vaper's Tongue?

In case you are trying to stop vaper's tongue, here are some of the things you can try:

#1: Changing Flavors Frequently:

The easiest thing you can do to stop vaper's tongue is to keep changing your e-liquids. The truth is that the first couple puffs of a new vape juice tend to taste a lot better than the last drops of the old one you were using. This solution tends to work better when you change between tobacco and fruit juices since they are substantially different. In addition, menthol juices also work well since they can cut through your nose.

#2: Cleanse Your Palate:

Just like wine tasters need to cleanse their palate when they are trying new wines by eating some cheese, crackers, and bread between wines, you should do the same. Besides these foods, others that can help you cleanse your palate include coffee, citrus fruit, spicy food, carbonated water, and pickled foods.

#3: Drink More Water:

One of the things that may be causing vaper's tongue is dehydration. So, make sure that you are drinking plenty of water.
