Can Vaping Cause Headaches?

July 17, 2019

Public Health England has always been a great aid for the vaping industry. The truth is that the first time they expressed their opinion about e-cigarettes back in 2015, they claimed that e-cigarettes were, at least, 95% safer than combustible cigarettes.

While many things change in this industry, it is a pleasure to see that last year this same organization reaffirmed their conclusion. However, this time they weren't alone since the United States National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine also had concluded that “e-cigarettes are likely to be far less harmful than combustible tobacco cigarettes.” just a few weeks before.

So, according to both organizations, vaping is not only a good alternative to smoking as it can also be seen as a powerful way to improve health outcomes.

However, and no matter how much you like vaping, we can't ignore the side effects on some people. In fact, about 55% of vapers state that they have already experienced at least one side effect while vaping. However, it is important to note that while these side effects aren't as serious as the ones caused by tobacco, they are still uncomfortable.

One of the side effects that tend to be reported more often is headaches. If you already experience this side effect, we are about to show you how you can avoid it and finally cure your vaping headaches.

 Vaping Headaches

Simply put, a vaping headache is usually described as a consistent headache that is not very painful but it can last for a very long time. Some vapers also mention that these vaping headaches started when they began vaping. However, with time, the headaches disappeared.

So, what causes vaping headaches after all?

The truth is that while there are many reasons why you may have a vaping headache, there are 3 causes that tend to be more common:

 #1: Dehydration:

One of the things that you may haven't even noticed if you just started vaping is that sometimes, when you're hitting your vape, you may notice your mouth feeling a bit dry.

This is just the reaction to both propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), which are two of the main ingredients of vape juices. These ingredients tend to absorb all the moisture which causes the feeling of dry mouth.

In addition, in case you already felt your throat sore or dry, this may be the result of the dehydration as well. Ultimately, this degree of dehydration can lead to mild to severe headaches as well as you can even feel a bit lightheaded or dizzy.

So, the best thing you can do is to take small sips and then gradually increase the water you are drinking. In case you believe you will be vaping more, make sure that you are well-hydrated.

#2: E-Liquid Ingredients:

While we already mentioned the propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) as two main ingredients of e-liquids that can cause dehydration, the reality is that some specific flavoring can be causing your headaches as well. However, in this case, the way it affects you and which ingredient actually affects you varies from person to person.

The best thing you can do in this case is to try out different e-liquid flavorings as well as you should also consider trying out other e-liquids brands.

#3: Nicotine:

No matter if you are smoking combustible cigarettes or vaping, you're ingesting nicotine and this substance can cause you headaches.
